Facts About Solar Energy

Facts About Solar Energy

Solar energy is the energy derived from the radiation of the sun and has great potential of becoming the primary source of energy in near future for mankind. Here are a few facts about Solar Energy.

solar technology

Solar power is as natural as it gets. The energy radiating from the sun is called solar energy and there is never a shortage of it. It can be obtained abundantly from the sun, and virtually every living organism on earth needs it to survive.

Solar energy is much better for the Environment than other more traditional forms of energy based on fossil fuels like oil and gasoline.

On average, American families spend $70 per month in energy costs, 30% of which is for heating. With solar energy, heating costs are much more cost-effective efficient. While solar energy may require a high costing initially, in the long run it saves you money over traditional energy sources. Solar panels with proper battery back up can work 24 hors per day, 7 days per week, even in cloudy weather!

Environmentally speaking, solar energy is pollution-free and eco-friendly. It doesn’t emit harmful greenhouse gases thereby protecting the earth from more global warming.

Some Interesting Facts

1. In one hour the sunlight which reaches the earth’s surface is greater than what the earth’s total population uses in a year.

2. Among the renewable sources, Solar Energy is believed to be the best and most efficient choice. This statement is backed by the fact that Shell Oil predicts solar energy to be the main contributor to the total amount of renewable energy sources, which is believed to command half of the total energy in about 30 years.

3. A World Record was set in 1990, when a solar energy powered aircraft flew across USA without using any other fuel.

4.  Solar energy powered cars, while eco-friendly and cheaper to operate are still comparatively slower.

5. Near 2 billion people in the world are without electricity at the moment. Their only hope of power or electricity comes from solar energy systems, which can be set up at remote places.

6. Americans consume 26% of the earth’s energy although they only account for 5% of the total  population.    This  means that the average American family consumes a lot of energy,  emphasizing the need for abundant solar energy.

7. If we covered a portion of the Sahara Desert with the photovoltaic cells, we could satisfy all of  the earth’srequirements.

8. All TV and communication satellites use photovoltaic cells, which use solar energy.  Solar energy in conjunction with photovoltaic cells is also being for the production of electricity and heating water.

9. Solar energy is rapidly becoming an energy of choice as we move into a new era away from fossil fuels.

We can safely say that eco-friendly solar energy is a fuel for the future that will help us to save the earth and diminish global warming which is having a devastating effect world-wide.
